Canary Toothpaste Tablets Backed by Science

You’ve probably seen more and more toothpaste tablets popping up online (ours included!). But beyond the eco-friendly packaging and “no tube to squeeze” appeal, there’s a science story here—and one that we at Canary want to share with you in plain language.

What is nHAP — and why is it in our tablets?

  • nHAP = nano-hydroxyapatite — a tiny, nano-sized version of a mineral that naturally makes up most of your tooth enamel.

  • When a tooth is under attack (think sugary drinks, acid, plaque), it can lose minerals. nHAP helps remineralize, or put minerals back, helping repair early damage and strengthen teeth.

  • It’s considered a promising fluoride alternative: research shows that nHAP can inhibit enamel demineralization just as well as fluoride in many cases.

So, in short: nHAP is like a “repair crew” for your enamel.

What the science says

A recent in vitro (lab) study tested a dentifrice tablet with 5 % nHAP against:

  • A standard fluoride toothpaste

  • A placebo (tablet with no active ingredient)

  • No treatment at all

They exposed bovine enamel blocks to a mouth-like bacterial/acid challenge and measured how hard the enamel stayed (a proxy for how much damage happened). The results?

  • The nHAP tablet prevented demineralization about as well as the fluoride toothpaste.

  • The placebo tablet did better than nothing, but was much less protective than nHAP or fluoride.

  • The untreated group lost the most enamel integrity.

In other words, under controlled lab conditions, nHAP performed very strongly — which supports what we already believe about its potential in everyday oral care.

Of course, real mouths are more complicated (saliva, brushing technique, diet), but that study gives good support for nHAP’s promise.

Why Canary’s nHAP Tablets = Smart Choice for You

Here’s what sets our tablets apart — beyond the science:

  • Effective & safe: You get enamel repair + protection without relying on fluoride

  • Less sensitivity: nHAP can help reduce discomfort from hot/cold or acidic food by sealing tiny micro-pores in enamel.

  • Brightens naturally: Gentle polishing via calcium compounds helps lift surface stains without harsh abrasives.

  • Clean, gentle ingredients: No parabens, no sulfates, no artificial dyes. And we include xylitol, which helps reduce cavity-causing bacteria. (As noted on our site.)

  • Eco-friendly & plastic-free: Our tablets come in refillable glass jars and compostable pouches. No plastic tubes.

  • Easy use, even on the go: Just pop one in your mouth, chew until it foams, brush for two minutes, rinse. No mess.

What to Expect When You Switch (and tips to get going)

Switching to toothpaste tablets might feel a little different at first. Here’s what many customers experience — and how to get the best results:

  • Texture / mouthfeel: Tablets feel different than gels or pastes. Give it a week or two — many people get used to it (and even prefer it!).

  • Foaming level: We’ve boosted natural foaming agents (from plant sources) so you still get a satisfying brush.

  • Use just one tablet: Each tablet is portioned so one is typically enough. But you can use two if you like extra foam.

  • Brush technique still matters: Two minutes, gentle strokes, reaching all surfaces = still key.

We believe in smart, sustainable oral care. Our nHAP toothpaste tablets are a way to bring together science, safety, and environmental responsibility — all in one small chewable tablet.

The lab evidence suggests nHAP can stand toe-to-toe with fluoride. When that’s paired with our clean ingredients, zero-plastic packaging, and easy use, we think you get a compelling, modern oral care solution.
